pagetime is an iOS app that keeps the apps you choose blocked until you photograph pages of the physical book you're reading. This policy explains what data the app handles and what happens to it. The short version: pagetime is built to know as little about you as possible.
No account, no profile
pagetime does not require an account. We do not collect your email address, contacts, or location, and we do not build a profile of you. If you type a first name during setup, it is used to personalize the app and its subscription screen; that screen is served by Superwall, so the first name and a per-install identifier are sent to Superwall for that purpose only.
Book cover and page photos
When you photograph a cover to identify your book or snap a page to earn time, the photo is sent over an encrypted connection to our verification service. The service forwards it to an AI vision provider to identify the title or confirm that it shows a page of your physical book. These photos do leave your device.
- Photos are processed transiently to produce a verification result and are not stored by pagetime; our verification service is stateless and keeps no copy of your images.
- Verification requests are routed only to AI providers under data policies that prohibit retaining your images or using them to train models.
- Photos are used solely to verify your reading, never for advertising, analytics, or anything else.
Screen Time data stays on your device
App blocking is built on Apple's Family Controls and Screen Time frameworks. Your selection of blocked apps, your app usage, and your shield state are handled by iOS on your device using Apple's privacy-preserving tokens. We cannot see which apps you block or how you use your phone, and none of this information is transmitted to us.
Reading progress
Your books, page ledger, earned minutes, streaks, and reading stats are stored locally on your device. If you delete the app, they are deleted with it.
Purchases
Subscriptions are processed by Apple through your Apple Account. We do not receive your payment details. To validate your subscription and manage entitlements, purchase receipt information may be processed by our subscription infrastructure provider. Manage or cancel any subscription in your Apple Account settings.
Anonymous usage analytics
To understand which parts of the app work well and which need fixing, the app sends anonymous usage events to our analytics provider, such as which screens were viewed or that a page was verified. These events contain counts and settings only. They are not tied to your identity, they never include your photos, your book titles, or any personal information, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Crash and error reports
If the app crashes or a request to our verification service fails, the app sends a diagnostic report to the same analytics provider so we can fix the problem. A report contains technical details only: the error or crash type and its system message, the code location, the app and iOS version, the device model, and the names of the last few screens or actions in the app. Reports are not tied to your identity and never include your photos, book titles, or anything you typed.
AI disclosure
Book identification and page verification are performed by artificial intelligence. AI can make mistakes; you can edit an identified title or retry a rejected page.
Children
pagetime is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Data deletion
Because we keep no copy of your photos and store your reading data only on your device, deleting the app removes your data. If you believe we hold anything connected to you, write to us and we will resolve it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the current version will always be at this address with an updated effective date.
